Born and raised in Alexandria, Louisiana Richard graduated
from Louisiana State University in the winter of 1966
with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. After graduation
Richard was drafted and spent 2 years in the U. S. Army,
one of which was spent in Vietnam. In 1968 Richard moved
to Florida and worked for 17 years for St. Regis Paper
Company as an Inventory Forester, Senior Technical Forester
and Inventory Supervisor for multiple forests equaling
approximately 800,000 acres. In 1985 St. Regis merged
with Champion International Corporation and Richard
moved into Land Planning and later became Manager of
Resource Optimization for some 900,000 acres. In 2000
International Paper Company purchased Champion and Richard
chose to take early retirement. In 2001 Richard joined
NRPS. Richard has made the comment many times since
joining NRPS that even though he has been in the forestry
business for over 37 years, in the last 5 years with
NRPS he has practiced more actual forestry and gets
to see the results of his decisions on the ground. He
still enjoys giving a helping hand in timber cruising
as the needs arise. |
